My heart was broken as I read the book of Joshua and didn’t find the word hallelujah as the people of Israel shouted. I had been deceived. I tried other versions (because I like to read KJV and ERV), still nothing. I started to wonder, but I’ve heard that the children of God were praising the lord when the wall of Jericho fell down flat. But they said it was their shout of hallelujah that brought down the wall. Have you heard something like that too? Is it just me or didn’t they make it seem like the Israelites were just in church praising God as a normal praise and worship routine then the wall fell as a sign from God that he had accepted their praise? Hasn’t a pastor ever told you “praise God well so your own wall of Jericho can fall”? No?
Well, guess what? THEY LIED.
God had it planned from the onset, it wasn’t just a coincidence (Joshua 6:2-3) He said to Joshua, “see I have given into thy hand Jericho..” Even if the children of Isreal didn’t shout, God would have still found a way after all Jericho was already strait shut up because of the children of Israel, none went out and none came in.
So THEY LIED TO US, YOU AND ME! That’s how I felt. But then a voicesaid, who are the “they”? Your childhood Sunday school teachers? Or Your My Book of Bible stories (remember that book we read when we were young?) that you read so passionately instead of your bible? Or should we blame your current bible study teachers? Or Your Pastors? Who actually told you that they were shouting hallelujah? Who is to blame for your misconception of the word? Who shall we put the blame on this time? Then I understood where Uncle Holy Spirit was going with the entire gist. (haha) I got the point. I had the actual word right with me all these years but I chose to believe what I’ve heard around. And then I had to blame myself and admit I LET myself be swayed because I did not study the word for myself. And you will be swayed by every wind of doctrine if you do not know the word for yourself too.
YOU HAVE TO BE A WORD MAN (of course, man meaning female and male). It is compulsory, you just have to know the word for yourself. You can’t afford to be lied to or deceived. You can’t afford to not have a weapon to fight your enemies. This thing is serious business. You have to study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman who applies true teaching in the right way. Bible study is VERY SERIOUS business. You can only survive temptation from knowing the word.
How do you know you’re saved? Because you came out for Alter call? Or because you’ve been a church-goer all your life? How do you know Jesus died for your sins? Because you heard so?The WORD! YOU GET EVIDENCE AND PROOF FROM THE WORD which is aka the SCRIPTURES. You get correction FROM THE SCRIPTURES; you get instructions from the SCRIPTURES, you get everything from the scriptures, EVERTHING.(2tim 3:16)It’s not just a book; the bible is the FOUNDATION where we draw our faith fromas CHRISTAINS. So if you don’t know the word for yourself, think of the damage you’re doing to your spiritual man? And If the foundation be faulty, what can the righteous do?
What if Jesus was not a word man when the Devil came to tempt him, Jesus would have said silly things like “who bread don ep?” “I don’t even like bread like that sef” Haha! Oh, how would he have saved mankind! Thank God he was a word man! So Instead he said “FOR IT IS WRITTEN, THAT MAN SHALL NOT LIVE BY BREAD ALONE…” because it was indeed written in Deut 8:3, which means HE WAS A WORD MAN and the devil knew from his response!Lol, you think he just said “it is written” for the sake of saying it? He overcame his temptation through the use of the WORD.Yuuuup!
The funny thing is even the devil knows the scriptures. The devil, our adversary is not sleeping and chilling like we are doing, he’s day and night going around like a roaring lion looking for whom to devour, so he has to know the word so he can counter us when we pray or talk and so he can use it to tempt us. It’s not enough to know how to pray or fast or speak in tongues even though they’re important the word is much more important. Knowing the word of God is primary, the rest will fall in place. Didn’t the devil quote the same scriptures in Psalm 91:11 when he told Jesus in Matthew4:6 to jump down, meaning HE ALSO KNEW THE SCRIPTURES! So what is our excuse?
Even in our own modern day society some unbelievers know the word more than even we believers and it’s just pure embarrassing. There was this time I had a Muslim boyfriend who called me Jonah for always sleeping off on him when we talked, I usually laughed it off but I really didn’t know why he called me Jonah. Shame right? I asked him one day, and he told the story of Jonah to the best of his knowledge (which was just that Jonah liked to sleep, but first he said ahan you don’t know the story of Jonah?) and then thinking about it later I was ashamed of myself that as a “Christian” that I called myself, I didn’t even know the real Jonah story (Jonah that was popular oh, what about Ezekiel or Nehemiah or Micah? lol)and that was when I read it myself.
YOU JUST HAVE TO KNOW THE WORD FOR YOURSELF.
I’ve heard people say “oh but that’s Old Testament na” its no more relevant, oh we are in the dispensation of grace and not under the law. OKAY YES WE ARE IN THE DISPENSATION OF GRACE BUT the Old Testament is still VERY IMPORTANT AND RELEVANT even though we won’t be judged under the law and IF YOU ARE A WORD MAN, you would KNOW that because you’d know Jesus said he did not come to destroy the law but to fulfill the law. You would also know Apostle Paul said “what then? shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? GOD FORBID”
PLEASE OPEN YOUR BIBLE! Stop listening to your preacher only. If you become a word man, you won’t need to argue about flippant things like tying scarf to church, or wearing trouser or drinking alcohol or speaking in tongues or your music type because YOU WOULD KNOW. You would know some things your church do are just church doctrines and not really scriptural. YOU WOULD JUST KNOW. Too many Christians quote scriptures they have NEVER read, and they end up quoting out of context.
Yes, we know all have sinned and come short of the glory of God BUT do you also know the following verse says “Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is Christ Jesus.”
Yes, we know the wages of sin is DEATH but we also knowthe gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ. Why do people ignore the concluding part of this verse just to prove their point that sin is the wages of death?
I could go on and on about a lot of misconceptions in the Christian faith because of lack of studying the word but we cannot completely address this topic in one post, so we’ll talk more about it soon, yeah?
For now, BUY a Bible with your own money (so you can value it) and STUDY.
Thank you Pastor Segun Onayinka of Saints Community for blessing me with your “bible study for serious Christians”
