The place outside the city wall.

Last night,
At the well traveled road,
Just outside the city wall,
I was there,
I saw his acquaintance with grief,
I felt his anguish,
His affliction,
His pain.

Last night,
I saw how He was scorned,
And spurned by his own people,
His own people!
They cried out:
Crucify him!
And followed him,
To the place of the skull;
Which was,
The place of his doom.

Oh, how miserable those last hours were,
That He cried out to his father;
Eloi Eloi, lama sabach thani
Still, He gave his life,
His life,
That was without fault,
Because it was the will of the father,
To be slaughtered as a lamb,
For the iniquity of all;
At the place of the execution.

I wish and hope
To be at the place again
The place outside the city wall,
When I sleep,
So I do not forget,
That he was at the crucifixion site,
The place Golgotha,
The place where skulls and bones lay scattered,
The place which is called the Calvary,
Because of me.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends…

  1. Thank you for sharing this well-written post.

    This was the greatest sacrifice of all, one who laid down his life so that we all may have eternal life. The greatest gift of all.

    Happy Easter!
