Hey hey! How have you guys been? Well, I’m great too, we bless the Lord. Thank for asking. Is it just me or this year is so fast? Sigh. So, today on lesson of the week, we’re talking about how to become a millionaire in two days. Because I love you guys i’m sharing this secret, people pay for this know-how i’m about to share oh.I know yall as excited as I am to know all the numerous ways you can make money on the internet, I mean, nobody wants to work hard these days.. What’s that thing they say again.. Work smart not work hard right? Yes. That’s it. Well, to the business of the day.

Hmmmm… so where should I start from? What is it we’re talking about again?

Ah. Yes, I remember. Become a milionaire in two days from the internet. Now, if at first thought this didn’t sound like a scam or fraud or 419 or yahoo yahoo to you. Brethren, YOU ARE COVETOUS! Your own covetousness is of high grade. Lol. So you want to make a million in two days just like that? So if everybody could make money just like that why are there still poor people? So yu don’t know that it is commanded that if any would not work let him not eat?

NOW THAT I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION, SHALL WE ADRESS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE?

COVETOUSNESS.

Small sin right? When there’s sexual sin, lying, murder, stealing and other BIG sins. So if it is so small why are you covetous? You’re not covetous abi? But yu clicked immediately yu saw how to become a milionaire online without working in just two days?! haba aunty. *rme

Sit down, lets talk. I’ve been dying to address this issue but I’ve not just found the time and words to use.

Let me start by saying Covetousness is the INORDINATE DESIRE often for ANOTHER’s possessions. It also means having a CRAVING for possession. It is the SIN nobody is TALKING ABOUT. Covetousness is so serious because it starts from just a desire and then it grows (just like adultery where you don’t have to actually commit the sin) you don’t haveto take what belongs to someone else because just by inordinately desiring it, the sin is done. A covetous person is a greedy person who has insatiable desire for more, such a man does not mind cheating and defrauding others just to get more. It is a battle I am fighting, have fought personally.

And yes, its in man’s nature to be covetous starting from the first woman herself Eve then Ahab, Achan, Judas-the-betrayer etc.. but what did Jesus Christ die for?

You see that earring you picked from your friend’s room, knowing fully well that she has just that one but yu have five others that you could wear but yu think its that her own that will fit you for that day then you take it then tell her later that you took it, YES its not stealing but it is COVETOUSNESS. MY YORUBA PEOPLE CALL IT OJU KOKORO. Why not buy your own?
YES it is covetousness that made yu borrow that dress, you could have worn what yu had!
YES it is covetousness that made you cheat on your partner in that relationship.
YES it is covetousness that made you backbite.
YES covetousness made you collect bribe.
YES covetousness is why you think the grass is greener on the other side because ruth seems happy there, you don’t even know the battle she’s fighting.
I know we are allowed to desire good things but covetousness comes in when it becomes INORDINATE i.e EXCESSIVE. Oh People we need to take a chill pill with this desire thing! There’s a thin line between ambition and covetousness. Can you just focus on your own and strive to be better person? We need to realize that the only person we should be in constant competition with is ourselves. That is, we should always be trying to be better than we were the last time. Not better than Chidinma or Ayo.

Brother James said in james 1:13 “… you are tempted by the evil things you want and your own desire leads you away till it traps you” That DESIRE is what we are talking about here. James concludes that the end point of covetousness is DEATH. And 1 Cor 6:9-10 says Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers….. NOR COVETOUS….shall inherit the kingdom of God. See that? Covetous people WILL NOT inherit the kingdom of God.
“..But he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.” From the book of wisdom Prov 28:16
And just so you know Jesus recognized it as a big deal too; luke 12:15 take heed and beware of covetousness for a man’s life consisteth not in abundance of the things which he owns.. the easy to read version interprets it as GREED which means that’s the start point of being covetous. No jesus did not address tying scarf to church or a particular mode of dressing, not going to church Tuesdays and Thursdays, JESUS ADRESSED COVETOUSNESS. He said TAKE HEED. BE CAREFUL. BEWARE. This means IT IS A BIG DEAL.

COVETOUSNESS is also idolatry according to colossians3:5. I hope we know idolatry is not just about putting oil on one wooden god, it goes deeper than that. COVETOUSNESS IS INDEED THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL because it has to do with desire which starts from the heart. And those are the worst kinds of sins. This is the problem our society has today, lack of contentment that leads to covetousness which eventually leads to other sins.

Covetousness leads to stealing, lying, fornication, adultery etc etc. you see how serious it is now? Its safe to say Covetousness is the BASIS of MOST SINS if not ALL SINS? Maybe that’s why it’s the last commandment just so we can always remember?

And we can all agree that contentment is the underlying reason for covetousness. No wonder Apostle paul said in 1tim 6 “but godliness with contentment is great gain for we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out”

Take heed.

  1. Hi Fadeke,

Lol…. Very catchy title. You are mischievous. 😀

I learned a lot from this post, thank you for sharing.

Indeed, the absence of contentment is the underlying reason for covetousness. It’s funny how small seeds of discontent can grow into covetousness and then into jealousy and bitterness sometimes. Finding satisfaction in ourselves is the foundation of happiness.
